This February reporting season is likely to be one of hits and misses. Investors should take the opportunity to ensure they are comfortable with the levels of risk their portfolio represents before the news starts to flow. Ultimately it will be the healthy companies with strong balance sheets and cash flows that will rebound strongest and reward the bold and brave investor savvy enough to pick up a bargain.

As we come to the end of the August 2011 reporting season we have seen, for the most part, companies report positive financial results, indicative of the better economic conditions enjoyed in the Australian economy during the last financial year. According to Lincoln Indicators, companies with sound Financial Health have performed well and were generally at the sharper end of results. Unfortunately, despite the strides forward in operational earnings made by many companies, progress from an investor's portfolio perspective has been obstructed by global economic weakness.
